Annual General Meeting

 

The first general meeting of the Prerana was held on ---- at the Prerana secretariat Pulchowk. Founder of ECCA (Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness) and director of Crafted in Kathmandu Ms. Rosha Chitrakar was chief guest of the assembly. During the meeting President of Prerana presented the annual program report of the organization and treasurer Ms. Panna Shova Shakya tabled the finanacial report for the approval. The assembly unanimously approved both the reports. The meeting also approved the nomination of Narayan Aryal and Company as auditor of the organization.

Mr. Mohan Shakya a senior engineer at Nepal Electricity authority was honoured during the assembly for his financial contribution to the Prerana.

During her speech chief guest Rosha Chitrakar said, she was happy to observe women's group organized and form an organization like Prerana. " I am very pleased to see most of members in this organization are either busy in their own household or in offices. I can understand how difficult for a working women to engage herself in social works, despie this difficulties, women should move forward" She said. she lauds Prerana's self funding mechanism to run the organization instead of donor driven mechanism. When NGOs are being blamed for its dependency to donor it is heartening to see Prerana has emerged by contributing the resources by members themselves, she added.

Speech delivered by the president during First Annual General Meeting

During the First annual General meeting of the Prerana, the president Mrs Matina Shakya delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the chief guest of the program Mrs. Rosa Chitrakar, Managing Director, Craft Trade in Kathmandu for gracing her presence in the function and all colleagues, members and well wishers for their constant support and encouragement to Prerana. On her speech she spoke about the establishment and institutionalization of the organization saying that on Friday, 28 July'2006, with consensus of nine friends the organization was legally registered under District Management Office, Lalitpur. Further she also notified that the organization has also been affiliated with Social Welfare Council and have acquired PAN No from Lalitpur Tax Department. She continued further about the establishment saying that the start up fund was arranged from its members itself with each founder member contributing Rs.50, 000 to the organization. She further stated that as an alternative for fund raising for the organization, a monthly saving program has also been initiated in which 46 members as well as well wishers have contributed Rs.100 to Rs.500 monthly. She also stated that on 2007/1/26 an election was held under the supervision of Mrs Junu Pradhan to select the board members in accordance to which 11 executive members were elected for 4 years.

Further she congratulated and applauded Miss Umita Bajracharya, Prerana member for being chosen to visit Norway for 10 months from Nepal Red Cross Society and appreciated Mr. Mohan Raj Shakya of Chilime Hydro Electric Project for providing financial aid to the organization.She then cited some of the work done by the organization like showcasing of the handicraft collected through the organization in a program organized by Bal Kala Mandir and Patan Rotrax at Hyatt Regency on August/September 2006.A four day long women art workshop organized on 16-20 February'2007, in which 13 established artists participated whose art later was showcased in Park Gallery, Pulchowk on 4-7 March' 2007. Participation of the organization in the Handicraft Mela organized by the Scope Finance Company on the Nepali New Years Eve (2007/4/14). A Detoxification Program carried out under Prerana Preventive Health Program on 2007/5/13 which witnessed about 141 participants. She also mentioned about the Baby Care Centre and Child Club initiated simultaneously after the organization shifted to this new premises in which it has 3 babies and 8 children members.

Further she also highlighted about the forthcoming activities to be done by the organization like

  • Developing Baby Care Centre as an example for all.
  • Representing members and all interested from all wards of Lalitpur Municipality
  • Exhibiting and selling Handicraft produced by Women
  • Preparing a report representing condition of all women ,children ,handicapped and elderly of Lalitpur District and later according to this report preparing report of other district as well
  • Improving the management of Child Club.
  • Familiarizing and promoting the issue of Women Right and Equality in every household.

Finally she concluded the speech by saying that this is just a first step towards achieving objectives and goals of Prerana and expressed hope that in the near future all the members and well wishers will work to establish the institute as an inspiration to all, especially women.
